Simon Kenton

Portrayed by Peter Chamness

The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center proudly presents their entry for the Fall Back into Time contest, Simon Kenton.

Simon Kenton is known as the “Father of Mason County.” He staked a claim in 1775 and planted the first corn crop in the area. In 1884 he built the first station for the protection of newcomers, and he organized a militia for the defense of Kentucky.

Peter Chamness has portrayed Simon Kenton for several years for schools and the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center as well as in the outdoor drama performed a few years ago at Washington and at Blue Licks.  He’s a former member of the Hopewell Muzzle Loaders of Paris, KY.
